Portsmouth City Council
Portsmouth City Council, a unitary authority formerly in Hampshire, which employs around 8,000 people, identified the importance of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) as a crucial aid in facilitating the smooth running and regeneration of the City. Unlike its rural Hampshire neighbours, Portsmouth is densely urban with a complex highway network and difficult social issues. The Council selected MapInfo to enable it to apply location-based intelligence in meaningful and useful ways in order to improve service levels in the community.
