With more than 1,500 sworn officers, the Atlanta Police Department is the largest law-enforcement agency in Georgia. The department sets high standards for serving its more than 425,000 citizens, including timely and accurate emergency response and exceptional police protection.
In 2003, the Atlanta Police Department declared its mission to rapidly and dramatically reduce crime to sustained low levels. To meet this goal, the department realized it needed to devise innovative crime strategies, deploy effective enforcement tactics, and hold every officer and civilian employee accountable for crime reduction.
