MapInfo Exponare
Make corporate data more meaningful for better analysis and decision making
Exponare is the ultimate information portal making corporate data more meaningful for better analysis and improved decision making.
Greater Access to Location Intelligence Data
Exponare is an enterprise offering that provides a means to access data within an organisation, irrespective of its format (spatial or non-spatial), and integrates with relevant corporate applications. It is a fundamental location intelligence application that enables organisations to use intuitive, map based portals that can be configured to channel vast amounts of disparate data to internal and external users and customers.
Exponare is architected around a central web server which provides data and functionality to two user deployments, Exponare Enquiry and Exponare Public, to meet the needs of various user types.
Key Benefits of Exponare
Configurable:
The intuitive Configuration Manager provides administrators with a great deal of flexibility, without the need to write code. Administrators can configure user profiles to determine the functionality, data sets, queries, views, print templates and application links that each user or group of users can access. Exponare can be administered by a single administrator or group of administrators, all saving their changes simultaneously.
Scalable:
Exponare can be configured to run in a network load balanced environment. Increase in usage demand can be met effectively by increasing the available capacity in the server farm.
Intuitive:
The intuitive nature of Exponare’s interface means that users of varying skill levels and experience can be made operational very quickly. Data sets, queries, print templates and map views are pre-configured by the administrator to make it quick and easy for users to access and analyse data.
Powerful:
Exponare provides a range of capabilities out of the box such as printing, themes, queries, mail merge, redlining, favourites, views, application level linking, and a range of mapping tools (zooming, selections, measuring distances, etc). The administrator can give users as much or as little functionality as required.
Information Portal:
Exponare provides a map based portal into an organisation’s data, both spatial and non-spatial. Data is accessed where it lives so there’s no need for duplication of data. A user can view all the information associated with a map object, regardless of where the data is stored (MapInfo tables, SQL Server, Oracle, Access, etc). Exponare can also link to third party applications, such as rating systems and document management systems, to provide a seamless interface to all relevant information within an organisation.

A Single Portal Into Your Organisation’s Data
Exponare links information from a range of databases and applications and displays these datasets in a single map interface. Exponare can be configured to suit specific needs, and because Exponare links seamlessly with other IT systems, it can be easily integrated with third party applications, such as property and rating systems and document management systems.

What’s New in Exponare 4.0?
Exponare 4.0 includes significant new capabilities that will boost the productivity of Exponare users and give them more power than ever before, just a few of which are mentioned below.
- Attribute editing – from within Exponare, users can now edit attribute data from a corporate database. This gives more control to power users without the need to use a desktop power tool. Editing privileges are controlled by the Exponare administrator, determining who can edit and what they can edit.
- Annotation improvements – the already powerful redlining and annotation tools in Exponare just got better! Annotations created in Exponare can now be saved and used in either Exponare or MapInfo Professional, facilitating a more powerful work flow for users to submit changes into the corporate data. Other annotation improvements have been incorporated such as drawing ellipses, controlling text alignment, and more. Exponare redlining capabilities are now very comprehensive with the ability to draw all object types, move and delete individual annotations, and import and export annotations.
- Open ad-hoc layers – Another much anticipated new feature is the ability to open a layer and add it to any current work context. This empowers users to access more data when needed without administrator intervention. Administrators can simplify the number of layers in their work contexts as users can open additional layers as required.
Other Exponare Features:
- Printing – quickly and easily produce professional look output in seconds using standard templates
- Redlining – users can mark up changes and save them back into their GIS
- Mail merge – produce standard letters which can include map images, eg send letters to all residents in a street regarding upcoming roadworks
- Application linking – Exponare makes it easy to link your maps to other corporate information
- Powerful querying and data binding – access your data where it lives, retrieve data from multiple formats for a single map object
- Allow public users to report faults such as a cracked footpath or broken streetlight
Exponare products are designed to work within a wide variety of existing technical environments.

User Groups
ALGMUG (Australian Local Government MapInfo Users Group)
The Australian Local Government MapInfo User Group (ALGMUG) is a e-mail forum established in 2006 as a means for Council GIS staff to communicate with their peers in Local Government. The forum allows users to pose questions, both technical and non technical, to others doing essentially the same kinds of work. Although primarily focused on day to day MapInfo/Exponare/GIS issues and discussion points, the forum has also played an important role in the progression of future product developments.
MUGNZ (MapInfo Users Group New Zealand)
The MapInfo Users Group of New Zealand (MUGNZ) has been supporting users since 1996. As with the Australian user group they aim to create a portal through which like minded users of Pitney Bowes Business Insight location intelligence applications can discuss, communicate and express information with their peers.
