Encom ModelVision
The geophysical, potential fields exploration modelling benchmark
The geophysical, potential fields exploration modelling benchmark for visualising, analysing, modelling and inverting potential field data.
A Total Potential Fields Modelling Application
Encom ModelVision provides a solution for every 3D potential field problem. Whether you work in mineral exploration, diamond exploration, petroleum exploration, environmental geophysics, engineering, unexploded ordnance or underground hazard assessment, Encom ModelVision can provide you with a complete interpretation environment.
Designed by geophysical interpreters for geophysical interpreters, Encom ModelVision is the most advanced general purpose model-based interpretation system available.
More than just Modelling
Encom ModelVision provides a wide range of import and export formats, utilities for gridding, filtering and numerical manipulation. Survey simulation tools within Encom ModelVision ensure users can plan and predict the field specifications for gravity and magnetic surveys, including all tensor components. Users can also create an airborne survey from a digital terrain grid or create a set of synthetic drillholes in a simulated geological model.
Leading Edge Technology
For over 25 years the Pitney Bowes Software Natural Resources research team has responded to industry challenges, implemented new and improved features, and ensured integration with a wide range of industry standard software products. Pitney Bowes Software is committed to the continued transfer of benefits to our customers from the ongoing development of the Encom ModelVision application.

Optimised and Efficient Modelling
2D/3D Modelling
ModelVision performs all modelling in 3D but provides the operational efficiency of 2D modelling by providing optimised cross-sections. You build complex 3D geological models from hand drawn polygons or imported ESRI and MapInfo GIS vector files using the 3D Model Generator and Extrusion Wizard plug-in.
With ModelVision you can model almost any geological domain and simulate almost all possible magnetic and gravity instruments in a simulated survey configuration. You can model data collected by the BHP Billiton FalconTM or Bell Geospace airborne gravity gradiometer systems, cross-wing total field magnetic gradiometers, the next generation of SQUID full tensor magnetometers and multi-sensor high resolution ground systems.

3D Geology Inversion
ModelVision provides you with an interactive interface to control and guide the inversion based upon your understanding of the probable geological style. We support three styles of inversion:
- Quick inversion of total field magnetic line data
- Standard single data channel multi-line inversion
- Joint inversion of multiple data channels and lines
Quick inversion is suited to steeply dipping magnetic rock units or dykes while standard inversion supports full 3D inversion of magnetic and gravity data for all ModelVision body styles. It inverts on a single data channel such as TMI, 1VD, Gz, Gzz etc. Geological parameters can be clamped or constrained within appropriate geological limits. Joint inversion supports co-sampled, multi-channel 3D data from multi-sensor instruments such as full tensor gravity gradiometers, full tensor magnetometers, flux gate magnetometer arrays, total magnetic field horizontal gradiometers and vertical magnetic field gradiometers.
The latest release of ModelVision supports circular pipes, elliptic pipes and tabular body styles. Gravity and magnetic data are inverted separately for the same geological model.
Mapping & Imaging
ModelVision supports a variety of mapping methods including images, grids, contours, stacked profiles, flight lines, points, vectors, drillholes and models.
Processing & Utilities
ModelVision is packed with useful utilities such as minimum curvature gridding, grid filtering, line filtering and a calculator that operates on lines, points, drill holes and grids. The utilities include a survey simulator and a drillhole simulator that can be tagged to a topographic surface and viewed in 3D.
AutoMag
Encom AutoMag is an optional extension for fast automated interpretation of magnetic line data and includes a new auto-strike correction tool for automatic correction of magnetic depth interpretations.
UBC Model - Mesh Designer Extension
The UBC Model-Mesh Designer optional extension is an easy voxel model builder and control file generator for the University of British Columbia Geophysical Inversion Facility (UBC-GIF) GRAV3D and MAG3D voxel inversion programs.“
