Encom AutoMag
Supervised automation for precision magnetic depth interpretation
Automated depth and dip interpretation of magnetic line data with automatic strike angle correction.
An Optional Extension for Encom ModelVision
Encom AutoMag is an optional extension for ModelVision and enables rapid magnetic depth-to-basement source estimation and fast processing of large surveys. Encom AutoMag uses the full precision of original line data to increase the data accuracy of the inversion. ModelVision provides an interactive supervisory environment for quality control, editing and verification of the solutions.
Supervised Automation for Improved Quality and Efficiency
Encom AutoMag bridges the gap between automated depth to magnetic source methods and pure interactive modelling and improves the quality and efficiency of depth to magnetic source calculations. It operates on a profile basis and is tightly integrated into the ModelVision modelling environment. Profiles can be analysed using original flight line data or traverses selected on gridded data. Large aeromagnetic surveys can be efficiently processed in batch mode using the recent addition of automated strike correction and dynamic filtering of solutions.
Based on a Refined Version of the Naudy Method
Encom AutoMag is based on a refined version of the Naudy dipping tabular body inversion method which provides quality geological information for depth, magnetic susceptibility, thickness and dip. An innovative strike azimuth estimator has added the ability to automate corrections for geological units that cross the flight lines at an acute angle. This method out performs other automated methods because it uses a realistic geological model for steeply dipping, semi-linear magnetic rocks such as volcanics, ironstone formations and dykes.
Solutions produced by Encom AutoMag can be converted directly into ModelVision 3D models, displayed as annotated symbols in map views or exported for use in other applications.

Four Key Phases of Operation
Encom AutoMag operates in four phases called anomaly detection, magnetic trend analysis, batch processing and solution filtering.
1. Anomaly Detector
The anomaly detection phase correlates a trial model magnetic anomaly window with every selected line in the survey to locate significant magnetic anomalies for detailed inversion. The tuning of the trial model has been optimised by providing a tool to select a “typical” magnetic anomaly of interest which is then directly modelled and inverted to provide the detection parameters.
2. Anomaly Trend Analysis
A specialised trend analysis tool has been developed to operate on the reduced to pole magnetic grid of the survey area and produce a magnetic anomaly trend direction grid that covers the same area as the orignal grid. The trend grid then provides the information needed for strike correction of the model parameters obtained by Naudy inversion of each detected magnetic anomaly.
3. Batch Processing
The batch processing facility allows you to select a subset or all lines in the survey for application of the parameters chosen during the Anomaly Detection phase. This process is very fast and allows you to process large surveys in just a few minutes.
4. Solution Filtering
The batch processing stage produces many solutions which require elimination based on reasonable geological criteria. The dynamic solution filtering provides a tool that removes solutions from the display in real time while thresholds are set on parameters such as dip, correlation thresholds, upward continuation level and relative anomaly trend direction and trend confidence. The immediate feedback of the live filtering allows you to quickly determine depth of burial over large areas. Further refinement can be performed with fine tuning of the filters and direct modelling in ModelVision.
Operates Exclusively within Encom ModelVision
Encom AutoMag operates exclusively within Encom ModelVision and produces aeromagnetic line data, gridded magnetic data and point solutions as output from the process. Encom AutoMag solutions can be converted to ModelVision 3D TKM model files or point datasets of the tabular body parameters which include depth, magnetic susceptibility, thickness, azimuth and dip,
